SubQuery Roadmap Update: 2025 Progress Report

SubQuery Roadmap Update: 2025 Progress Report

At the beginning of 2025, we shared an ambitious roadmap to grow and evolve the SubQuery Network across three core pillars:

  1. Scaling the SubQuery Network
  2. Accelerating Web3 Growth with AI
  3. Bringing the Best Indexing Support to All

You can view the full roadmap anytime here 👉 subquery.network/roadmap

As we reflect on our SubQuery roadmap halfway through 2025, it's clear that setting a year-long plan in the fast-moving world of Web3 is no easy task. Priorities shift, opportunities emerge, and we adapt accordingly. While we’ve made strong progress on many of our original goals, some items have been intentionally de-prioritised to make room for exciting new features and products that we believe will have an even greater impact on the Web3 community. Below, we dive into the three categories — what’s been achieved, what’s still underway, and what’s next.

Screenshot of SubQuery’s roadmap showing completed milestones, highlighting progress for the Web3 community in 2025.

Scaling the SubQuery Network

We’ve made significant progress on our mission to improve economic incentives, decentralisation, and efficiency across the SubQuery ecosystem.

âś… Incentivising More Effective Node Operation

  • We've reduced the number of Node Operators with 100% commission to just 6 through our Foundation Delegation Initiative v2. This helps improve delegation incentives and raises APY for delegators — a win for the entire network.
  • We're still exploring new token utilities for SQT holders who delegate or lock tokens. More updates to come here soon.

âś… Improved Efficiency in Pricing & Agreements

  • We've launched market-based pricing discovery for PAYG services — removing guesswork and making costs more efficient for both consumers and indexers.

âś… Steps Toward a Decentralised Future

  • We've introduced a Web3 community-driven dRPC listing process, allowing locked SQT holders to vote on new integrations. LayerEdge was the first network onboarded through this system.
  • The first SubQuery Council election has not yet been complete and this will mark a major milestone toward full decentralised governance — watch this space.

âś… Support for More Ecosystems

  • Although we’ve deprecated the SubQuery Data Node following a non-backward compatible upgrade to Geth, the Ethereum client, this has not stopped us supporting more ecosystems. Most recently, we partnered with Soldexer to support Solana archive access and accelerate indexing capabilities. We did this by developing a dedicated adapter that connects to Soldexer’s data streams, eliminating the need to query every block directly via RPC.
  • New dictionary adapters are underway for more networks to ensure strong performance — we remain committed to delivering robust indexers for developers building the next generation of Web3 apps.

Accelerating Growth of Web3 with AI

AI is central to SubQuery’s vision for the future — especially as more Web3 apps rely on real-time data and intelligent infrastructure. In the first half of 2025, we’ve hit key milestones to make AI more useful, accessible, and intelligent across Web3.

âś… AI Meets SubQuery Data

  • DApps can now automatically generate GraphQL queries from any SubQuery project schema — no manual coding needed, simply ask your AI agent plain english about your blockchain data.
  • Better yet, with our latest MCP integration, developers can now generate indexers completely with AI. A testament to our continued mission to help developers focus on their core product, not the infrastructure behind it.
  • We’ve shipped Discord and Telegram integrations for AI Agents, demonstrated through SUBastian, our own community Web3 community Discord bot — enabling teams to engage users and deliver instant support right where their communities live.

🟡 Ongoing Development in Governance and RAG

  • We're actively working with OnFinality to build AI Agents that interpret DAO proposals and contribute digestible summaries to community discussions.
  • Work has also begun on a RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) hosting service, designed to boost AI accuracy by making it easy to plug in trusted content.

đź”´ Still to Come

  • AI Agents designed to represent specific user groups in governance are still on our roadmap.

Bringing the Best Indexing Support to All

Indexing is at the heart of SubQuery — and we’re continuing to deliver the world’s best tools for multi-chain developers and the creators of tomorrow’s Web3 apps.

âś… Network Expansion

đź”´ Major Upgrades Still in the Works

We have big plans for the second half of the year, including:

  • GraphQL Subscriptions for indexers hosted on the decentralised SubQuery Network
  • Multi-chain indexer hosting support on the SubQuery Network
  • Immutable mode for parallel, reverse, and high-speed indexing
  • PostGraphile v5 upgrade, enabling historical range queries

These will dramatically enhance performance, flexibility, and real-time capabilities for advanced indexer use cases across DeFi, gaming, and analytics.

Looking Ahead for SubQuery

We’re proud of the progress we’ve made here at SubQuery in H1 2025, but we’re just getting started. The second half of this year will bring even more powerful upgrades, governance improvements, and AI capabilities that push the boundaries of what’s possible in decentralised data infrastructure. Not to mention some major things that we can’t yet reveal 👀
